We Stand!
An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0
struck China's Sichuan province on 5/12/2008 and killed over69,000
people at this moment and estimated death toll could be as high as
80,000. We are here to offer our help to those who need help
in the affected area. However, we need your help and please
donate. Your help is appreciated.
Impotent Notice: NCC512 has ended all the fundraising activities and is
working on issuing receipts to donors. We no longer accept
any donation.
NCC512 had an appreciation dinner on 6/21/2008 to
thank our volunteers and donors for their generous donation to people affected
by 512 Earthquake. The dinner was paid by each attendee
and the restaurant donated all income from the dinner to NCC512. After that, NCC512 volunteers will
start preparing receipts for our donors. Since it
involves heavy bookkeeping work, we will start to send receipts
to donors as soon as they are ready. If you do not receive
your receipt by 8/15/2008, please contact NCC512 by email
info@ncc512.org.
Thanks to everyone's hard work, the total monetary donation through
NCC512 is approaching $300,000 according to the most recent record.
This remarkable result was achieved through a series of major events
organized by NCC512 participating organizations, such as the first
press conference, charity performances at Palo Alto and Fremont on
May 17, donation collections in multiple sites cross the Bay Area,
the ongoing online auctions etc. In addition to monetary donations,
we had a successful tent donation. As you all know, we are planning
a Candlelight Vigil Memorial Service that will be held in three Bay
Area cities concurrently from 7 to 8 pm on June 14.
People around the world are showing their caring and love to people
affected in Sichuan and other areas in China. The urgent stage has
passed and it begins to turn into a rebuilding process that will
take a much longer period of time to be completed. As an emergently
formed ad hoc alliance, NCC512's sole purpose is for providing
urgent relief for China 512 earthquake victims. This platform
wouldn't be the best solution for meeting the needs for long term
rebuilding efforts. Therefore, as soon as we accomplish our tasks,
it should be dissolved immediately. NCC512 sets a goal to raise over
$200k within 30 days as announced at the first press conference.
Now, we are proudly declaring that we reached and exceeded our goal.
With the consensus of this understanding, the coordinating committee
members would announce that planned Candlelight Vigil Memorial
Service would be the last major fundraising event of the NCC512.
After June 14, the NCC512 will enter the ending stage of this
fundraising process. Starting on June 15, 2008, NCC512 will close
online donations, wire-transfer donations and remove the check
account information from NCC512.org website. Although we request not
to mail donation checks to NCC512 after June 15, we could extend the
donation acceptance date to June 21 for donations delivered in
person. We will also continue to accept donations matched by
corporations since it usually takes several months for the committed
matching donations to be delivered to NCC512 account.
We scheduled an appreciation dinner to thank all the NCC512
participating organizations and members on June 21, 2008. The
details will be announced shortly.
