Report for acceptance of donations from Los Altos High School Students

We received an email message from Mingbo Gong who is a Los Altos High School student and President of their Asian Club. Mingbo with his classmate, Jingjing Chen (She is the Vice President of the Asian Club and is from Sichuan) did a fundraiser with ODFL, a nonprofit organization, at Los Altos, Mountain View, and Fremont High School last two weeks They raised $3000 from students for China Earthquake. These donations are not only from Chinese students, but all kinds of students on the three campuses.

They wanted to donate their money to Sichuan Red Cross through NCC512 since they felt NCC512’s goal matches theirs. As requested, Sam went to Los Altos High School to meet Mingbo and his team and accepted the $3000 check from them on behalf of NCC512 on June 20, 2008. Sam indicated that every dollar they raised has tremendous value since it represents unlimited caring and love from a group of high school students to people affected in China 5/12 earthquake. Singtao sent a reporter to cover this meeting.

Recently, we observed several extraordinary fundraising activities by students from Bay Area middle schools, high schools and universities, such as fundraisings led by Minny Chen, Chrystal Zou, Minbo Gong and Fiona Kang. The activities they organized differ but there is a common place they share, which is they all sent their donations to NCC512 for passing to Sichuan for supporting the earthquake victims. They also showed their compassion through cooperation by leading a capable team. That is the quality a future leader shall possess. Congratulations to them and we are truly proud of every one of the student leaders and their team members!

P.S. Message from Mingbo Gong to NCC512:

Hi NCC512,

My name is Mingbo Gong. I'm a student from Los Altos High School, and the president of its Asian Club.

We did the fundraiser with ODFL, a non-profit organization (their website http://odfl.org ), at Los Altos, Mountain View, and Fremont High School last two weeks, and we raised $3000 from students for China Earthquake. Although that's not a lot of money, it represents the love from high school students, and they are not only from Chinese students, but all kinds of students.

We want to donate our money to China Red Cross through your organization; in the mean time, we want to meet with your members, so that we can encourage students from other high schools to be participated and help. Could we make a time to meet at our high school? Also, could you leave a phone number?
ps:I'm a Chinese speaker.

Sincerely,
Mingbo Gong
Los Altos High School

A Story from our 6-year old volunteer:

Hi, Sam,

Thank you for your encouragement. We learned a lot from our volunteer work, especially my daughter, who is only 6 years old. This is her first volunteer work. She used to like to help me pasting stamps, but now she knows that pasting 700 stamps is something very different. She also told me "if you help others, God will help you". It is so nice to have this chance.

Cheers,

Ouyang
